Hexa Flower

Tessellation #3!

Another one from Ilan Garibi’s book “Origami Tessellations for Everyone”.

This one looked deceptively simple, since the folding pattern is pretty trivial. However, puffing the little petals ended up being a bit tricky, and it didn’t work well on thinner papers I tried.

For this final result in the image, I used thicker paper: 130gsm. When I tried to puff flowers on thinner paper like the 70gsm kraft, it just crumpled in an ugly way. Maybe it is possible with more skill.

The pattern in the main photo was made using a 16 hexagon grid. The original goal was to make it on a 32 grid, but I only had small sheets of this thicker paper.

Here’s some sad, sad attempts with thin paper:

I gave up puffing the kraft paper one pretty quickly, since it was clear things were not going my way. The blue paper is even thinner than the kraft, so it seems thinner is worse for this pattern.
